UMECIT and FANLYC united for hope: Relay for Life 2025

“We are all one”

At UMECIT, we firmly believe in the power of unity, empathy, and solidarity as drivers of social transformation. Therefore, once again, we proudly and wholeheartedly join the Relay for Life 2025, a noble initiative organized by FANLYC (Friends of Children with Leukemia and Cancer Foundation), which aims to provide comprehensive support to girls, boys and adolescents facing cancer in Panama.

This year, under the motto “We are all one”, we reaffirm our institutional commitment to accompany, motivate and be a source of hope. As a university, we not only participate, but We became the godmother of a hero with a name and face: Moisés Abrego, a 15-year-old boy who inspires everyone with his courage and resilience.

Moisés, originally from Tocumen, was diagnosed with a desmoid tumor in his elbow, which led to the amputation of one of his arms. However, far from giving up, he has grown stronger and continues to dream big. He is passionate about soccer, video games, and Panamanian folklore. His dream is to become a Systems Engineer, and his words about FANLYC are moving: “It’s my second home”With deep gratitude, Moses also wishes to give back by volunteering, demonstrating that a generous heart knows no age.

UMECIT's participation in the Relay for Life is integrated this year into the institutional program. “Transforming Hands Volunteering”, which promotes the active involvement of the entire university community in social, cultural and community causes.

We extend the invitation to students, teachers, administrators and graduates: Let's join the relay! Let us walk together for Moses and for all the children who deserve a tomorrow full of life. Because every step we take is a light of hope.
